Alasdair G. Gilchrist M.D. was born and educated in England. He received his medical degree from Guy's Hospital Medical School, University of London. He completed recognized house-officer training posts, of six months duration in each case, in general surgery, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, emergency medicine and otolaryngology, all in London. He also spent one year as a resident house-officer at the American Hospital of Paris in France. He completed a three year residency training program at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital in London and four years as Senior registrar at the Westminster Hospital. During this time he passed certification exams in otolaryngology and spent four months studying ear surgery at the world renowned Institut Georges Portmann in Bordeaux, France. He was appointed Consultant Ear Nose and Throat Surgeon to the Westminster and Brompton Chest Hospitals in London. He came to the United States in 1976 and was Fellow and then Assistant-Professor at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He has been in practice in Houston since 1978.


For the last three years Dr. Gilchrist has limited his practice to the medical evaluation and management of vertigo, dizziness and balance disorders. He works in association with two other physicians, male and female, who practice general otolaryngology with special interests in sinus disease and sleep apnea. He is on the staff of Memorial Hermann Northwest and Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospitals. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, a member of the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association and the Harris County Medical Society.
